UNDP and CGG Partner to Support Future-Fit Governance Across Asia and the Pacific

January 26, 2026

UNDP and the Chandler Governance Group (CGG) have launched a new partnership to support national and city governments across Asia and the Pacific to become future-fit.

BANGKOK AND SINGAPORE, 26 January 2026
  — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Chandler Governance Group (CGG) have announced a new partnership to support national and city governments across Asia and the Pacific in becoming future-fit—better equipped to navigate an era of accelerating uncertainty, disruption, structural transformation, and growing complexity.

Through this collaboration, UNDP and CGG will develop and offer data-driven tools and a capability package to strengthen the dynamic governance capabilities that governments need to lead forward-looking socio-economic change and deepen institutional effectiveness. These capabilities include the ability to anticipate future scenarios and their implications for policy and strategy, adapt through partnerships and iterative learning in rapidly changing contexts, and act with agility to deliver effective, inclusive, and people-centered solutions in moments of crisis and opportunity.

The approach is designed to be adaptable across diverse political and institutional contexts. Through robust diagnostics and practical implementation support, governments will be able to identify capability gaps and prioritize reforms to strengthen their future-fit governance capabilities.

Despite extraordinary human development gains over recent decades, Asia and the Pacific is facing a convergence of unprecedented governance challenges—including climate change, demographic transitions, technological disruption, fiscal pressures, and declining public trust. In this environment, sustaining development gains and advancing inclusive and resilient growth will depend on governments’ ability to govern through uncertainty, respond effectively to shocks, and deliver results that matter to people.

This collaboration draws on the expertise of CGG and the UNDP in measuring and benchmarking government capabilities, developing and delivering practitioner-oriented training programmes, and strengthening government institutions and systems around the world. It also aligns with UNDP’s new Strategic Plan 2026–2029, which commits to strengthening effective governance by leveraging systems thinking, innovation, and strategic foresight to help countries deliver responsive public services and advance sustainable and human development.

UNDP and CGG invite governments, cities, public institutions, and governance practitioners across Asia-Pacific to join this initiative—whether as pilot partners, learning peers, or contributors to a growing regional community of practice. By working together to measure, build, and institutionalize dynamic governance capabilities, this partnership aims to help governments turn uncertainty into opportunity and ensure institutions remain trusted, effective, and fit for the future.
